Braemar Castle Hostel, Hampton, TN
It rained heavily through the night. I had left open the option to go to Hapton, even though I didn’t have a need for resupplying. The previous night I had still thought that I probably would not go into town, but as the rain continued I started to change my mind.
I set off a little after Goose and Andes, but I reached them after a while. We continued together to Laurel Falls, the surroundings of which are exceptionally scenic and very different from anything I’ve seen so far. The waterfall itself was beautiful, too, but the surrounding rock faces were impressive in size as well as shape.
The AT has about a mile-long side trail to Hampton. Goose, Andes, and I went to the grocery store and settled in at Braemar Castle Hostel. The impressive stone edifice is ambient on the inside, too, and a bunk space for $15 is not expensive. Alex, who oversees the place took our laundry to wash, and offered a ride to a diner on the the other side of town, where we had dinner with him and another hiker who had arrived, Marmalade.
The last few days have been rainy, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to clear up yet. So the morning promises a return into the rain, but before that we get to enjoy the night in dry and warm surroundings.

Läpi yön satoi rankasti. Olin jättänyt auki option mennä Hamptoniin, vaikka ruokatäydennykselle ei varsinaisesti ollut tarvetta. Illalla olin vielä ajatellut, etten luultavasti menisi kaupunkiin, mutta sateen jatkuessa aamulla aloin olla toista mieltä.
Lähdin vaeltamaan hieman Goosen ja Andesin jäljessä, mutta tavoitin naiset jonkin ajan kuluttua. Kuljimme yhdessä heidän kanssa Laurel Fallsin vesiputouksille, jonka lähialueet ovat poikkeuksellisen maisemalliset ja hyvin erilaiset tähän mennessä nähtyihin. Itse vesiputous on kaunis sekin, mutta myös ympäröivät kallioseinämät ovat vaikuttavia niin korkeudessaan kuin muodoiltaan.
AT:lta tulee noin mailin mittainen sivupolku Hamptoniin. Kävimme Goosen ja Andesin kanssa ruokakaupassa ja asettauduimme Braemar Castle Hostelliin. Näyttävä kivirakennus on tunnelmallinen myös sisältä ja $15 maksava punkkapaikka ei ole kallis. Paikkaa hoitava Alex otti pyykkimme hoitaakseen ja tarjosi kyydin kylän toisella laidalla olevaan dineriin, jonne menimme illalliselle yhdessä hänen ja myös hostellille saapuneen Marmaladen kanssa.
Pari viimeistä päivää on ollut sateista eikä säähän näytä olevan vielä tulossa muutosta. Aamulla on siis edessä paluu vesisateeseen, mutta sitä ennen saamme kuitenkin nauttia yöstä kuivissa ja lämpimissä olosuhteissa.
